Shelby Super Cars
“Several years between charging!?”
Shelby Super Cars (SSC), holder of the world speed record for production cars, has several supercar models, including the Ultimate Aero EV (Electric Vehicle), a new 100% green supercar which allegedly will be able to travel several years between charges.
- “The drive train under development will feature a revolutionary power source allowing for extended time between charging intervals with the possibility of several years between charging.” (SSC (http://www.shelbysupercars.com/news-071208.php); July 12, 2008)
That is not a typo; and it implies that the motor is harnessing a tremendous amount of environmental energy on-the-fly. The company is being very tight-lipped about this energy source. SSC expects to roll out the first prototype of this green vehicle in February 2009.
An earlier supercar they made, also called the Ultimate Aero, has a twin turbo V-8 that produces 1,183 horsepower, which combined with a lightweight, aerodynamic body, makes it officially the “World’s Fastest Production Car.” (Guinness World Records (http://www.shelbysupercars.com/news-091307.php)) They will only be making 50 of these vehicles which sell for aroung $620,000 each.
The company’s strategy is to build on the foundation of that success to then introduce other, more practical vehicles, including a sedan.
